Volume 2, Issue 2 – Claudia Nardini – From Italian Dancehalls to South East London: An epiphanic Journey through Sounds and Systems

As it often happens, experiences are made of connections and revelations. It also happens that we transform ourselves during the process of connecting and revealing.

This essay considers the ways in which the Sound System Outernational conference (taking place at Goldsmiths in 2018) acted as an epiphany, revealing what I had been waiting so long to see. The conference, in a way, bridged my theoretical background and placed it, geographically and politically, on a path that I am keen to continue. Within this piece, I track my own journey through Sounds and Systems, from Italian Dancehalls to South East London.
